Getting Behind
This is getting posted 4 days late... but late is better than never, right? Monday through Wednesday was filled with working at the golf course. The year is upon us and there is no easing into the golf season since it never left. We are and have been fully open for play all year long. We are starting to receive inventory slowly. I ordered in nearly 200 hats, Nike, Primo, Footjoy, Unreal, and Melin apparel for the shop. We will have a great selection this year.
A pretty cool thing happened for one of my friends on Tuesday. Darrius Brown, used to play for Utah State Men's Basketball last year. I met him through taking pictures and videos at the games and the dude is awesome. Just a stand up guy that is super genuine. I was able to create a good friendship with him and we stay pretty close. We message frequently and got to golf once last summer and we will make some more rounds together this summer. Right now he is playing for the G League Cleveland Charge and the man is on a mission! He has been tearing it up. One game he had 22 assists and he now holds the most assists in one season for the Charge. He signed a 2-way contract with the Cavs. The first 2 games he was on the bench he wasn't able to get in for any playing time. On Tuesday they were playing the Knicks and he got in with 2:40 left in the game. I was so hyped for him and screaming at the TV. He did pass up one open shot, missed one he took and had a SWEET alley-oop pass to one of his teammates for a reverse and the guy missed it... But man it was awesome to see him get his shot. I know this is just the beginning for him and he will have a lot of other games to play in the NBA.
Friday was the Southern Idaho Conference District III Tournament Championship game. Owyhee faced off against Centennial one more time. It was a dog fight to start the game. Centennial game out swinging haymakers. At one point they had an 11 point lead and looked like they had the Storm stunned. Something clicked for the Storm as they closed out the half to only trail by 2 points. To start the second half they looked like their normal selves. Scoring with ease, causing chaos on the defensive side, and bringing the energy that Centennial just couldn't handle. Owyhee took the lead and never looked back. They ended up winning by 20 points and claiming their 5th straight District Tournament Title. Selfishly I was ecstatic because I was able to post my championship graphic right after the game.
Also, my brother came into town for the weekend and it was good to see him. He came to the basketball game with me on Friday. Saturday we went to TimberStone and golfed. This was his first time playing the course. The weather said it was supposed to be 60° and sunny, but it was not even close. The high had to have only been 40° and it was cloudy and windy the whole time. To say the least we were frozen and not dressed properly. We got home Saturday evening and Padin cooked up some red sauce pasta for us. He is a pretty darn good chef and should go to culinary school.
Sunday, I was back to work at TimberStone and Padin headed back to Tremonton. On Sunday it was the first day for our new employee working the shop. He hasn't worked at a golf course or behind the counter before so everything was new for him. He did a pretty good job for the first day. He has a good personality so he can talk to people well. We had nearly 150 players this day so it was a great first day to practice. This job is a lot easier to learn by experience than learn from someone talking. We both got through the day in one piece and we move on to the next week.
